In Memory Of
Marcia Snyder (Millsap)
1957 - 2016

Marcia Kay Snyder, 59, of Olathe, KS passed July 14th, 2016. A memorial service will be held at 2PM Friday July 22 at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Olathe Chapel. Visitation from 1-2PM.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Humane Society of Greater Kansas City, Wayside Waifs, or a no kill shelter of your choice.

Marcia was born January 14, 1957 in Kansas City, KS to Marvin and Betty Millsap. She graduated from Bonner Springs High School in 1975 and went on to earn a bachelors and master’s degree from Pittsburg State University. One of the loves of her life was watching and playing ball. She played one year of softball at Pittsburgh. She was also an umpire in Bonner Springs and in Pittsburg while she earned her master’s degree. She earned the reputation on the field as a tough but fair umpire. She gained the respect of all through her knowledge of the game. As many of you know Marcia was an avid Jayhawk, Royals and Chiefs fan and she rarely missed their games.

After teaching special education in Girard and Uniontown, KS for 2 years, she applied for a job in the Olathe School District and was hired in 1982. She taught a total of 30 years at Indian Trail Jr. High, Brougham Elementary, and Pioneer Trail Middle School. Her reputation in the classroom was much like on the ball diamond as an umpire. She could be tough and no nonsense, but her students soon realized how fun and active her classes could be.

Marcia was very kind hearted, which was very evident in her love of animals and people. Her classes were known for adopting families during the holidays to ensure they had everything they needed. This helped her students learn the life lesson of care and compassion for others. She was known to remove insects from a room rather than kill them, and picked up many a lost dog or cat, even at risk of her own safety, to try to help them find their way home.

She was preceded in death by her father Marvin “Skeeter” Millsap.

She is survived by her husband Bruce Snyder, her step daughter Courtney Snyder, her mother Betty Millsap, her brother Rex Millsap and wife Carmen Cantrell, and her niece and nephew Chelsea Engle and Aaron Millsap.

Marcia and Bruce married in 1998 and would have celebrated their 18th Anniversary this Sunday July 24th.
