Leeman B Hunter, Pharr, TX, formerly of Mayetta and Topeka, KS passed away August 12, 2016 at Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, KS. He was born on August 28, 1938 in Denver, CO to Scott Lou Hunter and Clara Agnes (Ray) Hunter.
Leeman grew up in Topeka and attended school in the Highland Park area. He graduated from Meriden High School, Meriden, KS. He was proudly employed by Santa Fe Railway as an electrician for 34 years and retired from the BNSF General Office Building maintenance department in 2001. He was with Local Lodge 959.
Leeman married Roberta Roach and they had 3 children; LeeAnn, Clinton and Kenneth. They divorced. He married Wanda (Lee) Chapman and Leeman gained another daughter, Debra; they had one child, Tami. They divorced.
Leeman and Wanda lived in Meriden, KS for several years before building a home in Mayetta, KS where they lived for over 23 years. His kids and grandkids have many fond memories of spending time out in the country at the Mayetta home where Leeman was always ready to play, give rides on the mower or tractor, fix a car or anything we broke, or sit on the porch to visit. Leeman and Wanda later moved to Topeka.
Leeman became a full time “winter Texan” in 2009 and there he made many wonderful friends. He loved the weather and enjoyed playing poker, singing karaoke, gathering with friends, fixing things for neighbors, feeding and watching the birds, and growing vegetables and flowers. He moved to Olathe in April, 2016 due to declining health.
Leeman was proceeded in death by his parents, brothers Lawrence and Harold, a grandson, Jack Dickerson, and wife Wanda. He is survived by his sister Louetta White of Blytheville, AR, his children LeeAnn Dickerson, Debra (Ken) Park, Clint (Mercedes) Turner, Ken (Sandy) Turner, and Tami (Rodney) Flowers; his 11 grandchildren Levi Park, Travis (Jordan) Park, Siobhan Tye, Brian Dickerson, Andrew Turner, Brandon Turner, Lauren Turner, Clinton Scott Turner II, Jesse Turner, Taylor Turner and Josh Turner, and his 5 great-grandchildren, Alyvia Park, Easten Park, Aiva Park, Jax Park and Karson Turner.
Leeman was cremated. He was honored with a small celebration of life party, per his wishes. His friends in Texas will celebrate his life when they all return for the winter.
Leeman made friends no matter where he went, and he touched the lives of anyone who knew him. He received such great care, comfort and love from the wonderful staff at the Olathe Medical Center, to whom his family is forever grateful.
