Barbara Haberstroh
1949 - 2016

Barbara “Barb” L. Haberstroh, 66, of Olathe, KS, passed Friday, September 30, 2016. Visitation will be held from 5-6PM Tuesday, October 4, at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Olathe Chapel with a memorial service to follow at 6PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.

Barb was born December 15, 1949, in Kansas City, MO, to Maurice “Kelly,” and Edna Viets. She was a graduate of Stanley High School, Baker University, and the University of Kansas. An educator in the Olathe School District, USD 233, she taught Elementary-age Physical Education for 30 plus years. She loved teaching, and through it, she made lifelong friends. She enjoyed painting, horseback riding, relaxing in the valley, Fridays on the deck with friends and family, KU football and basketball, and the Kansas City Chiefs. She also loved Civil War and WWII history, and she took her family on daytrips around Kansas, stopping at all of the roadside historic sites along the way. She was married to Ray Haberstroh for 46 wonderful, happy years, and she was so proud of the three sons they raised together.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Kelly and Edna Viets, and her sister-in-law, Julie Viets.

She is survived by her husband Ray E. Haberstroh of Olathe, KS, her sons Chris and Allison Haberstroh (Reed) of Norfolk, VA, Ryan and Lisa Haberstroh (Jacobs) of Shawnee, KS, Robin and Kristen Haberstroh (Likes) of Olathe, KS, her siblings Kelly “K.C.” Viets of Utah, John “Jack” and Joyce Viets of Grandview, MO, and many other cherished family and friends across the country.

No really…don’t bring flowers. Please help fund cancer research. Cancer sucks.
