Gordon was born on April 2, 1926 in Oklahoma City, OK to Vern D. and Faye Smith, and was a graduate of Classen High School.
Gordon was proud of his service to our country, having served in the Army Air Force during WWII.
He was married to Margaret E. Buford on July 6, 1946 in Harrisburg, PA, and to this union was born a son, Wayne Dennis Smith.
Gordon went on to graduate from Oklahoma City University in 1950.
He was employed with the Santa Fe Railway Freight Traffic Dept., and spend 37 years in Oklahoma City, Tulsa, St. Louis, MO, and Kansas City, KS. He retired in 1986 as Regional Sales Manager in Kansas City, KS.
Gordon was also a former Director of Traffic and Transportation Club of Kansas City, MO, and was a member of the Glider Pilots Association, the American Legion Post #153, Olathe, KS, the Milburn Country Club in Overland Park, KS, the Kansas City Club, Kansas City, MO, and a former member of Grace United Methodist Church in Olathe, KS.
Surviving are his wife of 70 years, Margaret E. Smith, nieces Lois Ann Ham, Janice Geamer and husband Dave, and nephew Rick Carroll.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Garnet Carroll, and his son Wayne Dennis Smith.
