John Robert White
1955 - 2016

John Robert White, 61, of Lenexa, KS passed away on November 17th, 2016 from complications due to brain cancer. He passed peacefully and was accompanied by his close family.

He is survived by his loving wife Michelle Annette Peterson; his three children: James Sidney (Nancy Rose), Brittany Anne (Jeremy Joseph), and Rebekah Elisabeth; seven grandchildren: Taylor, Rylee, Jaina, Kennedy, Ethan, Millie, and Kyle; ten siblings: Jim, Mary (Dave), Helen (Andrew), Geri (Beth), Tom, Peter (Harriet), Paul (Lorraine), Andrew, Terri, and Mark; and numerous nephews, neices, and cousins. He is predeceased by his parents and his sister-in-law Joni.

John was born July 31, 1955 to Robert and Virginia White of Syracuse, NY. He attended Bishop Grimes High School and eventually got a degree in recreation management from SUNY Brockport in 1977. John's tall stature and gentle nature earned him the nickname "Tree" among his close friends.

Born a Catholic, he later converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, which is how he met his wife Michelle. They were married May 11, 1984 in Washington, DC. John was a District Sales Manager at DexMedia. He had been with the company through its various incarnations for 28 years. During his career, his job moved him from Massachusetts to New York to Texas to Ohio to North Carolina and finally to Kansas.

His favorite pastimes were fishing, camping, and cooking. But the great love of his life was spending time with his family. Nothing made him happier than spending a Saturday grocery shopping with his grandchildren in tow. He also served his church faithfully, devoting his time and services to any who needed him. John was beloved and respected by all who knew him. His gentle nature and kind heart touched many people’s lives and he will be dearly missed.

Funeral services will take place on November 21st at 10:30am LDS chapel, located on 21515 West 101st Street Lenexa, Kansas 66220. Visitation with the family will occur immediately preceding, beginning at 9:00am. Luncheon will follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be given to either the Hospice House of Olathe, 15310 S. Marion Street, Olathe, KS 66061 or to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Mid-America Chapter, 6811 Shawnee Mission Parkway - Suite 202, Cloverleaf Building #1, Shawnee Mission, KS 66202.
