In Memory Of
Carol Sue Sturdivan
1950 - 2016

Carol Sue Sturdivan, 66, of Olathe, passed away on December 17, 2016 at Hospice house of Olathe Medical Center, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

She was born on August 2, 1950 to Claud and Helen (Woolery) Harrelson at Ponca City, OK.

She graduated from Olathe High School in 1968, and went on to attend Emporia State University.

Carol worked as an Administrative Assistant for the Director of Nursing for the Newman Memorial Hospital in Emporia, KS, then moved to Olathe and was employed with the Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Company during the late 1970's.

In 1980, she began her career as a legal secretary, and was initially employed with Miller and Glenn and Associates, then moving to Stinson, Mag and Fizzell Law Firm.

On October 1, 1983, she married John Joseph Sturdivan, and they eventually made their home in Olathe, Kansas.

She was a long-time employee of Mick Lerner, eventually accepting a position with Douthit, Frets, Rouse, Gentile & Rhodes, LLC, in Leawood, KS, from which she retired in November of 2016. Ever steadfast to her hard-work ethic, Carol had started working for her father's business at the age of 12, working a total of 54 years of her life. She had long-anticipated her retirement, and had dreamed of all the things she would enjoy when she had time to herself.

During her long career, she was a recipient of the Kansas City Legal Secretary of the Year Award, and had previously been active in the Johnson County American Cancer Society.

In her spare time, Carol enjoyed her time gardening, tending to her flowers, and creating a beautiful backyard and home.

Carol is survived by her loving husband, John, her brother Jim (Sue) Harrelson, 9 nieces and nephews, and 19 great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 21, 2016, 9:00 am at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home & Crematory, Olathe, KS, followed by funeral services to begin at 10:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Hospice House of Olathe Medical Center.

Carol's family wishes to thank the associates and staff of Douthit, Frets, Rouse, Gentile & Rhodes Law Firm for the wonderful care and dedication to Carol during her illness. They are most grateful for the generosity and compassion given during such a difficult time.
