In Memory Of
Jean Ann (Blotkamp) Thompson
1926 - 2016
Jean Ann was born on September 13, 1926 in Girard, Kansas to Frederick and Pauline Banks. She was the middle of three children. Her family moved to Olathe when she was two years old, where Jean then attended Olathe schools and was a member of the Olathe High School graduating Class of 1944.
She married Paul J. Blotkamp, Sr., on December 1, 1945. They made their home in Olathe where they raised their four children, three daughters and a son.
Jean joined the St. Paul's Catholic Church community prior to her marriage to Paul, and was an active member of the Altar Society. In 1973, Jean was widowed and she began a lengthy career working with preschool children at the Olathe Montessori Preschool.
She enjoyed watching sports, in particular her beloved Kansas City Chiefs and the KU Jayhawk basketball team. Jean spent her summers searching for bargains at garage sales, and her favorite annual service project was to prepare and donate hundreds of Easter baskets to Catholic Social Service for the children.
On June 29, 2007, Jean married Charles Thompson. She became a member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Parish. In April of 2012, Jean was widowed for a second time.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents Fred and Pauline Banks, her sister Rose Marie King, her husbands Paul J. Blotkamp, Sr., and Charles Thompson.
She is survived by her daughters Carol S. Hamblin (John), Cecilia A. Bachman (Duane), and Deborah L. Tregeser (Robert) all of Olathe, KS, her son Paul J. Blotkamp, Jr., (Martha) of Lincoln, NE, her brother Jack Banks (Norma) of Englewood, FL, twelve grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Catholic Social Services.
