Larry Dean Lochner, Sr.
1943 - 2017

Larry Dean Lochner, Sr. passed away on May 25, 2017 at the age of 74.

Larry was born May 16, 1943 to Samuel Joseph Lochner and Gladys Oneal Lochner. In 1963, Larry married Nettie Marie (Siscoe) Lochner and had two children, Carla Marie Lochner and Larry Dean Lochner, Jr. and settled in Olathe, Kansas.

In order to support his family, Larry worked two jobs, by day as a rough-in carpenter building houses for George Martens and at night he worked remodeling houses. In 1969, while building a new house for his family, a couple who was moving to Olathe asked to buy the new house. Over the next 35 years, Larry built more than 1200 new homes, remodeled more than 5000 houses, developed 7 sub-division, built more than 15 industrial buildings and a church.

With all his success, Larry felt it was his duty and responsibility to help his community, fellow neighbors and those less fortunate. Over the course of his life, Larry donated land to his community so that Olathe North High School could be expanded, land for the Mahaffie House, and land for Olathe baseball fields. He also provided financial assistance for Old Settlers Day events, sponsored baseball teams, provided resources and land to the Girl Scouts. Larry also help provide homeless people with shelter and he believed in giving people a second chance to create a better life for themselves. He provided these individuals with on-the-job training and a trade so they could rebuild their life. In 1995, Larry had to retire from his lifelong love of building due to illness.

Larry was preceded in death by his mother and father, sister (Clairine Lochner), brothers (Paul O. Lochner and Samuel Joseph Lochner), great-aunt (Nellie (Lochner) Smith, and nephew (Clifton Lochner). Larry is survived by his partner (Nettie Marie Lochner), daughter (Carla Marie Lochner), son (Larry Dean Lochner, Jr.) and five grandchildren (Michael Lochner, Katelyn Lochner, Joseph Lochner, Jennifer Lochner and Matthew Lochner).

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 30 at 1:00 pm and the funeral will begin at 2:00 pm at Penwell-Gabel, 14275 Blackbob Road, Olathe, KS 66062. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Desoto United Methodist Church (Building and Maintenance) Fund.
