Donald "Don" Gilmore
1935 - 2017

Donald U. Gilmore has left this world, as "he knows another good spot”. Donald was 82 and passed away on August 15th 2017. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri on June 12, 1935 to parents Basil E and Gertrude Gilmore. He grew up in Windsor, Missouri and attended Windsor High School and graduated in 1953.

He was preceded in death by his parents Basil and Gertrude, his brother Robert A Gilmore, and his sister Beverly J Bender. He joined the Army on July 7th 1953 and served in Korea for 16 months he was discharged in July 1956.

Donald leaves three daughters Donna Jo Russell, Pamela Hardeman, and Deborah Moses. He is survived by his wife Christine I Gilmore and her children Cynthia L Al-Atabi and Andrew R Reynolds, nephews Don and Steve, 8 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and his beloved Dottie and Rusty.

Donald retired from Roadway Express in 1998 after 34 years. He received a safety award for 1 million miles driven. He was a member of Abdallah Shrine since 1975, also an active member of the Tin Lizzie unit, member of R.O.J. since 1991 and served as Director in 2009. Donald was a member in good standing with the American Legion and Delaware Lodge #96.

Donald loved the outdoors; he was an avid fisherman and enjoyed camping at area lakes and spending a few winters in Texas. Don could fix anything and his favorite past time was hitting a good estate sale. Don used his safe driving experience to transport children in need to the Shriners Hospital in St Louis and Cincinnati. The family asks for donations in lieu of flowers to the Abdallah Shrine General Fund.

Visitation will be held Friday August 18th 2017 from 5:00pm to 7pm and a service at 7pm. Don will be laid to rest in the Antioch Pioneer Cemetery.
