In Memory Of
Julia Elizabeth (Sutton) Rauckman
1963 - 2018
Julia was born July 6, 1963, in Durham, North Carolina, to Max and Claire Sutton. She attended the second semester of 2nd grade and of 9th grade in England and the remaining years in the Lawrence School System. She graduated from Lawrence High School in 1981 and attended Duke University, graduating cum laude with a B.A. in English and Elementary Education in 1985. She met Kelly Rauckman at Lawrence High School in 1979. They were married in Lawrence on July 27, 1985. Julia began her career as an elementary teacher in Bakersfield, California. She taught for five years until the birth of their children. She chose to be a stay-at-home mom until her children were in college. Julia fully embraced her role as mother. She resumed her teaching career at Nieman Elementary in the Shawnee Mission School District until cancer required her to retire.
Julia was a warm, kind, and gentle person, with an infectious smile and a quick wit. She was totally devoted to the welfare of her children. Her faith and walk with God guided her life. We are grateful that her faith in Christ gives us hope that she is whole and full of joy in God’s presence. Julia enjoyed friendships with fellow teachers and with friends from her small group while attending Olathe Bible Church.
Julia was preceded in death by her nephew, Christopher Austin. Survivors include her father and mother, Max and Claire Sutton of Fayetteville, Arkansas; husband of 32 years, Kelly Rauckman; daughter, Emily Pemble and her husband Connor of Lenexa, Kansas; son, Owen Rauckman and his wife Brooklyn of Overland Park, Kansas; brother, Stephen (Ute) Sutton of Sunningdale, Berkshire, England; sister, Katie (David) Austin of Fayetteville, Arkansas; brother-in-law, Kevin (Carol) Rauckman of Overland Park, Kansas; sister-in-law, Tonya (Kent) Broddle of Overland Park, Kansas; her three nephews: Joseph, Jared, and Grant, and six nieces: Mathilda, Meghan, Rebekah, Sarah, Hannah and Rachel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Julia’s name to Mission Southside, 18335 W. 168th Terrace, Olathe, Kansas 66062.
