Betty Lee Hurst, 92, of Lenexa, KS, passed away on January 10, 2018. She was born on July 28, 1925 to James Lawrence and Alma Elizabeth (Brewster) Fain in Miami, Oklahoma.

Betty moved with her mother to Kansas City, MO around 1940. She later graduated from Westport High School. Betty met her future husband, George Owen Hurst at a band concert in Penn Valley Park. They married on October 2, 1943 in Tacoma, WA where Owen was stationed prior to his deploying to France as a Medic in the US Army during WW2 . After the war, they settled in Kansas City, MO. In 1954, they moved to Independence, MO where they raised their family and enjoyed 74 wonderful years of marriage.

Betty is survived by her children, Suzie (John) Stutzer of Olathe, KS, and Michael (Lorri) Hurst; grandchildren, Abigail Jeanette (Paul Sanders) Stutzer, Michael Owen Hurst, Jr. and Autumn Colby Hurst. Betty was preceded in death by her husband George Owen Hurst; also, her mother, Alma Bain, and brothers, James Lawrence Fain, Jr. and George Albert (Johnnie) Fain. Betty was the loveliest, classiest, kindest Mom; she will be forever missed.

The family will receive guests for a visitation from 11:00-1200pm on Saturday, January 20, 2018, at Penwell-Gabel's Olathe Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 12:00pm. Burial will be at Floral Hills Cemetery in Kansas City, MO.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to The Salvation Army, 1223 E Santa Fe, Olathe, KS, 66061.
