1931 - 2018

Daniel Evans Carter (86), of Olathe, Kansas, passed peacefully into his Saviour’s arms January 13, 2018.

Daniel was born in Akron, Ohio to Albert and Elner Carter, March 20, 1931, the 7th of eight children. After graduating from high school, Daniel joined the Navy and served during the Korean War. He married his high school sweetheart, Doris J. Longfellow in 1952 while on leave from the Navy. They were married 64 years. After Daniel was honorably discharged from the Navy, he worked at General Tire and Rubber Company, with whom he was transferred from Akron to Waco, Texas. After his retirement from General Tire, he worked at M&M Mars candy factory in Waco.

Aside from being a loving husband and devoted father, Daniel loved the game of golf. When he wasn’t playing he was watching the pros. Daniel also had a passion for birds. Having kept several bird feeders in his yard, he and Doris spent time together watching the numerous species that visited his feeders. Daniel had a fabulous sense of humor and was quick to tell the latest joke he heard. His smile and easy way with people brightened many lives.

Daniel is survived by his children Mary Kay Hawkins, Gary Carter, Melissa Bennett (Bob), Daniel C. Carter (Emily), ten grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and his sister June Rice.

Daniel was preceded in death by his loving wife Doris, his parents, his sisters Miriam Tropeano, Helen Sautner, Dorothy Dawes, and his brothers James Carter, Jack Carter, and Bruce Carter.

Daniel will be inurned with his wife at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Stillwell, Kansas. Visitation will be at 3 o’clock pm Fri. Jan 19, immediately followed by a memorial service at 4 o’clock pm at Penwell-Gable Funeral Home 14275 Black Bob Road, Olathe, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in his honor to Villa St. Francis Catholic Care Center (www.villasf.org), where an amazing staff loved and cared for both Daniel and Doris through their final moments.
