Marilyn Patricia (Pat) Applegate left this earth on February 18, 2018 at the age of 74. She was born in Emporia, Kansas on March 15, 1943 to Richard and Mary Barrett of Cottonwood Falls, Kansas. She grew up on a farm east of Cottonwood Falls and graduated from Chase County High School with the class of 1961. After graduation she moved to Fairway, Kansas and lived with her aunt and uncle while attending Draughon’s Business School. In 1962, she worked for the Department of Agriculture, Commodity Exchange Authority. Her boss told the business school he wanted someone who knew the difference between wheat and corn. In those days she was one of only two women allowed on the trading floor at the Brand of Trade. She also worked for her aunt and uncle at Air Cargo Terminals and Nelson Travel Service. In 1982 she went to work for the State of Kansas in the Benefits Office at the University of Kansas Medical Center and worked there until May of 2000.

She married Evan Applegate on June 2, 1963 in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas. He passed away October 12, 2001. She was also preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, mother and father-in-law, and a nephew.

She is survived by her daughter Rebecca Fisher (Bryan) of Hays, Kansas, her son Matthew Applegate (Amy) of Olathe, Kansas, six grandchildren, Colton, Caitlin, Carson, and Keaton Fisher of Hays, Kansas and Morgan and Alexis Applegate of Olathe, Kansas, her sister Martha Knoblock (Richard) of Emporia, Kansas, sister Mary Laney (Larry) of Riverton, Wyoming, sister Carol Wilson of Marion, Kansas and brother Raymond (Peg) of Emporia, Kansas. She also leaves a niece, four nephews and several great-nieces and great-nephews. She was a member of College Church of the Nazarene and Lenexa Senior Center.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Ambassador Adult Bible Study Fellowship at College Church.
