In Memory Of
Bonnie L. Berardi
1953 - 2018

Bonnie L. Berardi, 64, of Olathe, passed away on February 21, 2018. She was born on April 26, 1953 to Leon and Dorothy (Quates) Emmert in Joliet, IL.

Bonnie grew up in Illinois, graduating from the Joliet Township High Schools in 1972. She then started her career of caring for others while working as a physical therapist assistant at St. Joseph Hospital in Joliet, Il.

In 1977, she enlisted in the U.S. Army and was trained as a Tactical Satellite/Microwave Systems Operator at Ft. Gordon, GA. Upon completion of training she was assigned to the 25th Signal Bn. at Ft. Bragg, NC, where she met her soon to be husband, Roger Berardi. She was discharged from the Army in 1980 with the rank of Sergeant.

When her husband was transferred to Ft. Gordon, she volunteered in the Eisenhower Army Medical Center’s pharmacy. While her husband was stationed in Weisbaden, Germany from 1983 to 1986, she worked as a pre-school teacher.

When they returned to Ft. Bragg she initially worked as a pre-school teacher, but then attended Fayetteville Technical Community College, completing her associates degree and becoming a Certified Pharmacy Tech. She then worked at the pharmacy in the hospital in Lumberton, NC.

In 1992, they moved to Atlanta, GA where she continued her Pharmacy Tech career at the DeKalb Hospital in Decatur and then the Egleston Children’s Hospital.

In 1998, she and her husband moved to Olathe, KS, and she obtained a job in the St. Joseph Medical Center’s pharmacy. She retired from there in May of 2014.

Bonnie was a very private person, but a keen observer of people. She had a dry sense of humor that suited her well. She enjoyed reading, traveling, pistol shooting, RVing, and quiet nights with her husband watching TV or playing cards with her dogs at her feet.

Bonnie is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, Roger, her brother George, and several nieces and nephews. She will truly be missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Sue.

The family will receive guests for a visitation from 10:00-11:00am on Monday, February 26, 2018, at Penwell-Gabel’s Olathe chapel. The funeral service will follow at 11:00am with burial in Olathe Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.

At Bonnie’s request, dress for the service is casual.
