John William Dagg
1928 - 2018

John Dagg, 89, of Lenexa, KS (formerly of Belen, NM) passed away June 17, 2018. A Celebration of his Life will be held on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 from 6-8pm at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 14275 S Blackbob, Olathe, KS.

John was born September 11, 1928 in Hamilton, Ontario to Alfred and Georgina Mae Dagg. He married the love of his life, Shirley Phillips, on May 19, 1954 in Belen, NM and they were blessed with four daughters. He was a paratrooper in the US Army and spent time in Japan and Korea before going to work for Santa Fe Railroad for 33 years before retiring in 1987. In retirement, John and Shirley moved to Table Rock Lake and enjoyed many years there before moving back to Belen, NM and finally to Lenexa, KS. John was a very energetic and active father and grandfather; many of the fond childhood memories his grandchildren share are of the time they spent with him on the lake. His greatest love was his family, he will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Georgina Mae Arbour and his grandson Derrick Nadeau.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years Shirley Dagg and their four daughters Cindy Lyon (Vern), Candy Burdolski (John), Nancy Dagg and Tracey Murray (Rob). He is also survived by his son Donnie Dagg (Glenys) and grandchildren Alyssa Meehan (Evan), Travis Lyon, Ryan “Odie” Burdolski (Marisa), Amber Holland (Chris), Dustin Burdolski (Brittany), Ashley Burdolski, Cassidy Nadeau, Colton Murray, Conner Murray and Stephanie and Gillian Dagg. He is also survived by his seven great grandchildren and his brother Ronnie Dagg (Barbara).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Kindred Hospice.

John’s family would like to thank Kindred Hospice for the loving kindness and compassion given by all the caregivers, especially Sarah, Kathy and Monea.
