Richard "Hoot" Gibson
1932 - 2018

Richard “Hoot” Gibson, 85, of Olathe, KS passed Sunday July 8, 2018.

Richard affectionately known as “Hoot” was born November 28, 1932 in Beatrice, NE to Elmer and Anna Marie Gibson. He graduated from Beatrice High School, then joined the US Navy where he served 4 years. Shortly after his service he worked for Montgomery Ward in Cedar Falls, Iowa before moving his family to Liberty, Missouri where he began his 32 years of service with the FAA as an air traffic controller. After retirement he worked as a consultant for the training department with the FAA for 10 years. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, scuba diving, travel and spending time with his family and friends. He also took great pride in his home, especially his lawn and his garden. He is a past Commander of the American Legion Post #153 from 1966-1967.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Bud Gibson, Bob Gibson, Wes Gibson and his sisters Mary Meints and Kate Gibson.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years Beverly Gibson and his daughter Becky Vogt and husband Lou of Warsaw, Indiana. His son Reece and wife Paula of Gardner, Kansas and son Don and fiancée Haylie. Grandchildren Louie, Jacquelyhn, Katherine, Britney, Patrick, Luc, Nick, Andria, Aaron, Mikayla, Nolan, and Link. And his great grandchildren Madison, Gavin, LJ, Maxwell, Lennox, Jaxson, Madi, Anora, Gianna and Raelynn. He is also survived by his sister in laws Mary Gibson, Janelle Gibson and Irene Gibson and many nieces, nephews and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the American Heart Association in memory of “Hoot Gibson”

In honor of Hoot and his love for the Nebraska Cornhuskers "GO BIG RED", please wear red and white or your favorite college colors and come casual!!
