John H. Lewis Jr., 85, of Olathe, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2015. He was born on December 2, 1930 to John and Estella Lewis in Leavenworth, KS. He graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1949 and then served 4 years in the United States Air Force. Following his service he worked as a Supervisor for A & P Grocery Store, House of Fabric and Needle Woman Fabric. He ended his career as a Letter Carrier for the United States Post Office in Olathe, Kansas.

He and his wife Phyllis were married on January 31, 1953. He was a loving husband and dedicated father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was an active member of the Olathe Clockwinders Optimist Club; a past volunteer with Meals on Wheels and an active member of the First Baptist Church of Olathe. His wonderful smile and quick wit will be greatly missed.

John is survived by his loving wife Phyllis; daughters Robin (Frank Denning) Lewis and Debra (Dwight) Linder; sisters Martha Widdice, Helen Pinson, Mary Redford; grandchildren Tricia (Matt) Snyder, Travis (Shauna) Linder; great grandchildren Kenton, Kohen and Kenzie Snyder; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents John and Estella; sisters Gertrude Madison, Edith Van Eman, Francis Lewis, and Virginia Lewis.

The family will receive guests for a visitation between 10:00 - 11:00 AM on Monday, December 21, 2015, at First Baptist Church of Olathe. A memorial service will follow the visitation at 11:00 AM with burial in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to either the Parkinson's Disease Foundation or to First Baptist Church of Olathe.
