Lee graduated from Girard High School in 1949, and then entered the United States Air Force, serving until 1956.
Lee married Nancy Ann Nepote on April 23, 1955 in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Girard, Ks. They would have celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary next month.
He worked for the FAA in Olathe, Ks until his retirement in 1980. Lee enjoyed playing softball and bowled in several leagues and tournaments.
Lee was also a lifetime member of the American Legion Earl Collier Post 153 in Olathe, Ks. He held many positions within the Legion and really enjoyed being part of the Color Guard and Thursday Night Bingo. He was also a member of the Forty and Eight.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna Bruenjes; sister, Evelyn Bailey; and brother, Allen Bruenjes.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Bruenjes of Olathe, Ks; daughter Teri (Lynn) Messer of Olathe, Ks; daugher, Brenda Wilde of Gardner, Ks. Grandchildren: Adam (Cyndee) Messer; Michelle Messer and Justin Wilde, and great-grandchildren, Andrew and Ali Svoboda.
Services will be held on Monday, March 21, 2016 at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home in Olathe, Ks with Pastor Perry Sukstorf of Redeemer Lutheran Church officiating. Full Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion Color Guard at the burial in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Olathe, Ks.
Memorial Contributions may be given to the American Legion Scholarship Fund or Boy's State, in c/o American Legion Post 153, 410 E Dennis Ave, Olathe, Ks 66061
