Julia A. Reed, 85, of Olathe, Kansas died Wednesday, December 18, 2014, at her home. She was born March 19, 1929, in Fairmont, Missouri. She grew up in St. Joseph, Missouri and later moved to Kansas City, Kansas. She attended Wyandotte High School. She married Roland Reed in 1944 while Roland was in the Air Force being trained as a pilot. During Roland’s military service, they lived in Florida, Alabama, and Texas. After WWII, they settled in Topeka, Kansas where Julia was a homemaker and mother. In addition, she worked at J. C. Penney’s and Topeka Public Schools. Julia and Roland moved to Olathe, Kansas in 1994 several years after Roland retired from the Santa Fe Railroad.

Julia was preceded in death by her husband, Roland Reed, of 69 years. She is survived by a son, Michael J. Reed and his wife, Kristi, of Topeka; two daughters, Ann M. Reed of Topeka, and Kathleen R. Major and her husband, Mike, of Olathe; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

During her retirement years, she enjoyed traveling, spending time with family, and collecting dolls. Julia was a member of College Church of the Nazarene in Olathe.

Visitation will be at Penwell-Gabel Olathe Chapel on Sunday, December 21, at 2pm where the family will receive friends until the Memorial Service which begins at 3pm. There will be no graveside services.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to either College Church of the Nazarene in Olathe or Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care.
